NDEC's tutoring center was dedicated in memory of Darryln Danahy volunteer of many years who died in October, 2000 after a long battle with cance, a faithful.
Darryln was first asked to serve on the NDEC Board, but she requested instead to do direct service work with our students. From the Spring of 1996 through June 2000, Darryln drew her students into the world of American culture with compassion and creativity. At first, she was concerned that she did not have the necessary teaching skills for instructing English.

She soon discovered that as a wife, a mother, and a teacher, she would have many things in common with her students, who were struggling to master the English language and the American culture.

In this same spirit, volunteers from all over Boston and its surrounding areas share their time and talent with students at NDEC as individual tutors.

Many of the students at NDEC attribute their educational achievements to the support and guidance they receive from their tutors.

These students face the difficult challenge of managing jobs, family obligations, school and English as their second language. The one-on-one tutoring affords them the flexibility of extra study time and the individual pace they need to be successful learners.
